->The Turn Sequence
I love that true move and shoot as returned to Mechwarrior. Mechs should be able to move at full speed and fire their weapons.
->The Hex Map
While there are some quirks in converting this game to a hex based game, the maps speed up play and reduce bickering over figure placement.
->No Heat for Walking
Mechs should not shutdown from walking around - Thank you Wizkids.
->Action Packs
No more wasting money. If you don't like what's in the box - don't buy it
->Highly Expandable
Go nuts writing new rules for the game. It's easy to add them on to game play.
->Not Enough Stuff
We need more maps, scenarios, and stories to keep players interested in the game.
->One on One Fights
These may be good for learning the game, but thats it. There needs to be more diversity to this game.
->Figure Quality
I probably got a crappy pack, but 50% of my figures had one or more serious defects.
->Uncertain Future
Wizkids, you need to support this game. Lets see some more announcements and support soon or this game could end up like Crimson Skies....
->No Career Rules!!!
This is what made the unofficial S7 rules awesome, without these this game is gimped.
Wizkids is off to a good start with this game. The rules and product distribution are much better then the original Mechwarrior game. Unfortunately it seems that Wizkids left out critical components for a game like this. As I mentioned the lack of things like a career rule set or different scenarios seems to suggest the game is only about one and one combat. While its annoying that Wizkids left out things that are common to other games, most players should have no trouble making up extra rules and scenarios.
I like to think of it in this fashion. My favorite toy of all time is K'nex. The little plastic pieces were nothing special, but a set of them held great possibility even if the instructions only gave the plans for several models. Now imagine getting this amazing toy as a present, but having it wrapped in a garbage bag.(My Dad would often do this).
Thats what Solaris VII feels like. Its got great potential and I recommend buying a pack and having some fun, but the ball is in your court Wizkids. Expand on what you got here and make this game stick around for years to come.
