Today, Topps, the parent company of Wizkids, released a press release stating that they have decided to close Wizkids games. The one line regarding the future of Wizkids products was

"Topps will immediately pursue strategic alternatives so that viable brands and properties, including HeroClix, can continue without noticeable disruption"

The World of Warcraft Collectible Miniatures game by Upper Deck will be released on Nov 11th 2008. Official organized events will start in early 2009.

On Tuesday of this week, Wizards of the Coast announced changes to their Dungeons and Dragons Miniature Line. While these figures have been popular for D&D RPG sessions, the figures could also be used for a stand alone skirmish game. Due to rising production costs and dwindling skirmish games, Wizards of the Coast has decided to retool the line with a more RPG Centric approach.

While I suppose this is not too much of a surprise to anyone, its nice to hear a formal announcement from Wizkids on the issue. In their new blog, they stated that in the uncertain economic times we are facing, they will focus on existing product lines instead of trying out new ones. The full post can be found here:

If you checked out the most recent episode of the Tabletop Battlefield, then you know that the Battleforce 5 organization was changing its name. They have announced their new name and it is Mech Siege. The purpose of the organization will be to continue support for Mechwarrior Age of Destruction. Check out their website for more information.

In an e-mail to their mailing list, Privateer Press has announced that their new CMG Monsterpocalypse will be released Oct 10 2008! The Tabletop Battlefield plans to perform a full review of this game once we have our hands on it.

A few days ago I made some changes to the account management screen. In the process I created an issue which caused most of the site to become inaccessible....oops. I have since stabilized the issue and I will implement a complete fix a little later today. There is no need to worry as this issue should only affect my account at the current time.

I'm rolling out another cool customization feature today. For the first time in the history of the Army Showcase I am allowing custom page background images. Right now, options are kind of limited, but I always expand on these things. In order to make the feature even more useful, Page Backgrounds will not count towards your image storage limit. Though image size's are limited to 450KB. To check out a page in action, head over to my posterchild page

I added a new RSS feed to the Army Showcase today. This RSS feed will list pages which have been recently updated. This RSS feed will not include new pages. It will only include pages which have been updated after their creation.

Today I am rolling out a new component which allows you to keep track of the battle history of your army. You can check it out on my Forest Tigers Page. This new component can be found under the Operations component menu.(Did you ever wonder what that menu was for?)

Also, several battle records can be placed on a page if you want to keep track of different types of battles.

In order to have the rules in everyone's hands for Gen-Con, Privateer Press has released the entire rule book for Monsterpocalypse. At the time of this posting, the rules can be found on the games hoem site.

The first expansion for Mechwarrior Solaris VII was supposed to be released early this year. However, due to the fact that Wizkids decided to put the game "On Hold", the expansion was never released...until today. Wizkids has put all the rules and related material online for free. Normally, I do not like collectible miniature games, but the World of Warcraft game seems different. In this article from a play tester:

So I was over at Wizkids Forum this morning and FireFox 3 stopped letting me go to the site with a warning saying it had been flagged as a site containing malware. After some searching, I have found this report from Google:

According to the report, Google found that several pages on Wizkids site were using known exploits to install malware. It is possible that this is a mis-identification by Google, or maybe something worse has happened....

I recently released a brand new way to post pages to the Army Showcase and it is by far the fastest way to do so. It took me only four minutes to create an account and post a page. See the Tyranid Patrol by TyranidsRule as an example. This new feature can be accessed at the bottom of your page list or by creating a new account.
