Dealing with the Menoth Blob

So I have been having a heck of a time with the Menoth Blob. More information can be found here:

http://www.privateerpressforums.com/index.php?showtopic=178480

To be fair, I haven't actually lost against it. Every battle has been a draw since no one can seem to do much damage to the other player. If anyone has some thoughts on stopping it, then let me know.

Experimenting with WARMACHINE MK II

Experimenting with WARMACHINE MK II

I just posted another article about Point Costs in the MK II Rules.

Some of the Cygnar Warjacks(specifically the Charger and Sentinel) got a nice discount. For purpose of field testing, I plan to be running some unique armies. I'll post the updates here as I try them out.

WARMACHINE MK II

With the release of the Beta WARMACHINE MK II rules, I will be re-tooling the army. I also added a Hunter and a Squad of Long Gunners in preparation for the new rules. Too bad the Hunter is no longer the Crisis suit of the Warmachine world.

Expanding to 500 Points

Dec 29 2008

Expanding to 500 Points

For this army, the next logical step is to take it up to 500 points. As much as I like the Defender, I could probably spend the points more wisely. Also, in the event I face an infantry heavy army, the Defender will find itself in a world of hurt.

My plan at this point is to replace the Defneder with an Ironclad and add some Trenchers and a Grenaider. In order to accommodate this change, I will need to drop the Storm Smiths and one of the Sword Knights.

Another possible configuration is to add a Charger instead of a Grenaider in order to save the cost of purchasing the Genaider figure. This wouldn't be the most ideal setup, but I could probably make it work.

Adding the Journeyman Warcaster

I have been trying out some different army builds recently. As with many other players, I have added a Journeyman Warcaster to the army. I chose the alternate female figure sculpt because I looked her action pose better then the traditional one.

When I look at this figure compared to the rest of my WARMACHINE figures, its cool to see how far I have come in my painting skill. The rest of the figures on this page were painted somewhere between 3 to 5 years ago. I think this figure is probably the best figure I have ever painted.

Menoth Rematch

Sep 07 2008

Menoth Rematch

Today I took on Kyle in a Rematch against his Menoth Army. This time I swapped out Styker and a Storm Smith for Haley and the Journeyman Warcaster.

Things went better for the most part. Some lucky high rolls helped out quite a bit. The real star was Haley's Chain Lightning which almost completely destroyed his Knights Exemplar and damaged his Revenger. I made one mistake which resulted in heavy damage to my Defender, but no critical systems were lost.

Since I charged into battle early on I would have been able to execute a slow retreat with some heavy firepower before Menoth's forces could get in close combat. As a result, Kyle decided to concede the game to me.

One Critical Mistake....

Aug 28 2008

One Critical Mistake....

WARMACHINE can certainly be an unforgiving game. In my latest battle everything was going very well in my favor until one critical mistake. I moved one of my Storm Smiths and blocked a charge with my Defender to the enemy's heavily damaged Repenter. At the time, the remains of my Sword Knights were locked in combat with the Repenter and this Charge would have destroyed the Warjack and opened at attack up against his Warcaster.

To make matters worse, I got impatient and charged my Defender into his Crusader which resulted in the Defender getting wrecked without enough damage being done to the Crusader.

I will be more careful next time.

On the plus side, the Lancer Sword Knight Combo worked wonders. My opponents Revenger strayed a bit too far ahead of support and my forces literally dismembered the undamaged Warjack in a single turn.

400 Point One Kill Assassins Game

Aug 24 2008

400 Point One Kill Assassins Game

I took on Kyle and Ryan tonight with the 400 point army I had on this page. This was the first time Kyle had brought out his entire Menoth Army while Ryan tried out a proxy version of his future Khador Army. All and all it went for me probably because I was the only one not using an army for the first time.

I found the Storm Smiths to be quite useful in distracting enemy forces. Plus their 13 defense is nothing to laugh at. Several attacks directed at them missed...[Not a one ended up getting killed]

I really wanted to run a Defender so I messed around quite a bit to get one in. I'm still out on whether a Defender is a good choice in a small army.....Especially against a Khador Army. My Defender faced off against his Destoryer and fortunately managed to blast off his Destroyer's cannon. Still, abandoned by his Warcaster and Gun-less his Destroyer took several more hits from the Defender's Gun and still did not go down!

All in All a Three Person One Kill Assassin's Game is interesting. It can force some interesting tactics.....

More Army Changes...I Think

More Army Changes...I Think

So I have been reading that Nemo is not the best Warcaster to be starting out with. Since I only have him and Coleman Stryker, I think I might be going back to Stryker since I do have some combat experience with him. I'll probably be posting a new list in the next few days....

Dealing with the Cryx Channelers

May 18 2008

Dealing with the Cryx Channelers

These bloody Channelers have caused so many problems for me. It just takes one to get in range and then I have either Crippling Grasp on me or Scourge. It seems that no matter what I do cannot do enough damage to "neutralize" every one of them. I think what I need to do is use a combination of damage, and melee to "neutralize" them. While the Arc Node on the Lancer is a nice addition, I may be putting to much focus on that and not on the rest of the Lancer's abilities. Using his reach, It is quite possible to engage two of the bonejacks and "neutralize" multiple channelers that way.
